BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A standing-room-only crowd filled the Livingston Parish Library board meeting Friday, August 8, as residents debated over whether to loosen hiring requirements for the library’s next director.
The previous director was ousted at a meeting last month, prompting several board members to walk out. Those same members returned for Friday’s meeting at the request of Parish President Randy Delatte.
To expand the applicant pool and potentially attract more candidates to become the library’s next director, members considered removing the requirement for a Master of Library Science degree and instead allowing applicants with any master’s degree.
“Appointing someone that’s not qualified will be a waste of my taxpayer money,” one resident said.
