A woman fell from the swinging bridge in Byram tonight at 9:07 p.m., according to Rankin County Investigator Tyler Burnell.

She broke both of her legs and has been transported to UMMC by ambulance.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call and a radio transmission from the Byram Police Department about a woman who had fallen from the swinging bridge into the exposed sandbar of the Pearl River below.

Officers with the Byram Police Department were the first ones to arrive on the scene. Deputies with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department arrived shortly after. They found that the woman appeared to have two broken legs.

The Cleary Volunteer Fire Department and Byram Fire Department responded to the location, as well as Pafford Ambulance Service.
