Irecently had the great thrill of interviewing the legendary Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top for a story previewing the band’s performance Thursday at the Washington Town & Country Fair.

Well, I should disclose the interview was conducted by email, and I have to admit I still hear the words of my college newswriting teacher in my head from 30 years ago. My late teacher, Robert Wernsman, said a student in a previous class turned in an email interview with Tim DeLaughter of another Texas band, Tripping Daisy. My teacher said you can’t trust an interview that is not done either in person or over the phone, and that it was probably conducted by Tripping Daisy’s publicist. ×
