BRAWLEY — A new four-legged officer has joined the Brawley Police Department, and he’s not your average K-9. On August 6, local children at the Lions Center got a firsthand look at Max, a robotic dog used by the department to enhance both public safety and youth engagement.
Max strutted his stuff during the event, performing tricks including a robotic handstand that brought giggles and awe from the kids. They also had the chance to ask Police Chief Jimmy Duran questions about the futuristic addition to the force.
Speaking to the press, Chief Duran said Max takes only a few hours to charge and can operate for a similar amount of time. But it wasn’t Max’s tricks or battery life that led to his adoption.
