ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Residents of Orangeburg could soon see an increase in their utility bills. On Tuesday night, the city council passed the first reading of a proposed rate increase.
Orangeburg Department of Public Utilities (DPU) leaders are looking to increase the rates by about nine dollars for people who live within city limits and a little more than 12 dollars for people outside of the city’s limits.
Data from the Department of Public Utilities shows the average person living in Orangeburg pays almost $270 a month in utilities.
“We already deal with our DPU bills being extremely high,” said resident Antwanique Middleton. “I feel it this will put more of a financial strain on us.”
