WEST HAVEN, Conn. — Geovany Santos and friends spent a Saturday afternoon riding their bicycles in a group, starting in New Haven, riding into Hamden, and heading back towards West Haven , to commemorate one of their friends who was killed two years ago after being hit by a car while on his bike.
“We were all just on one side of the road doing our thing, having fun," Santos, a biking influencer, said. "We weren’t doing anything dangerous on our side of the road.”
West Haven Police did not see it that way. It was July 26, and the Savin Rock Festival was taking place at the boardwalk, and with plenty of families and people of all ages in the crowded area, there was no room for a bike group.
