Kaleo Carvalho said Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami was ready to play on Tuesday when the Kauai Senior Softball League (kudos, JC Crouch and all the Kauai Senior Softball minds and hands!), in collaboration with the County of Kauai (Parks and Rereation director Patrick Porter and his crews were at the opening ceremonies) hosted the start of the 49th annual Senior Softball State Tournament at the Hanapepe Stadium complex.
Rep. Dee Morikawa said the tourament was “historic” with 65 teams (they’ve never had that many teams participate), and JC said there are more than 900 seniors playing softball at the Wally Sonoda (fancy term for Kaumakani) Field where Rep. Dee said there are the original Flying Saucers, and at Kalawai Park.
