A local service aiming to address food insecurity in the metro area opened in Brooklyn Park Wednesday, hoping to commemorate its namesake.
WCCO TV reports that “after a successful food giveaway earlier this summer, [Philando’s Pantry] is making its services more permanent.” The pantry, organized by the Minneapolis NAACP, opened to a large turn out in the mid-morning. “Organizers say the name pays respect to Philando Castile’s legacy of paying it forward. Police shot and killed Castile, a Black man who worked as a nutrition services supervisor at a St. Paul school, in 2016.”
