FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Former Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman will share in handling the Washington offense in the team’s season opener at New England on Friday, coach Dan Quinn said.

Quinn said on Wednesday that Hartman and Josh Johnson will handle the offense.

Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will not play. Backup quarterback Marcus Mariota was among multiple players that did not travel. Mariota is working through a lower leg strain, Quinn said.

But Quinn said Daniels was expected to have a sizable workload during Wednesday’s practice, as would several others. He added that other players who received heavy reps would also not play Friday.
