The combination of increased Wrangler sales and the initial revenue boost from its Helly Hansen acquisition lifted Kontoor Brands Inc. to a 43% jump in second-quarter net income to $73.9 million.

The Greensboro jeans manufacturer reported Thursday diluted earnings of $1.32 a share, up from 92 cents a year ago.

Adjusted earnings were $1.21 when factoring in “recently enacted increases in tariffs.”

There was an 85-cent earnings projection by one analyst surveyed by Zacks Investment Research. Analysts typically do not include one-time gains and charges in their forecasts.

Kontoor has about 2,800 employees in the U.S. It had 13,200 employees overall as of Dec. 31.

Kontoor completed on May 31 its $900 million purchase of the Norwegian outdoor and workwear brand Helly Hansen.
