PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. — A man was arrested Tuesday after trying to enter Pickens Junior High School in Jasper, according to the Pickens County Sheriff's Office.

At around 2:45 p.m., campus law enforcement deputy Blake McClure spotted a man pulling on the doors of the school and trying to get in. McClure approached the man, who then started running away.

After a short chase, the suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

The Pickens County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened after afternoon dismissal. The junior high gets out at 2:15 p.m., according to their website . Their first day of school was last week on Friday, August 1.

This is an active investigation, and the sheriff's office said more information will be shared as it becomes available.
