LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The Barry-Eaton District Health Department has discovered a toxic algae bloom in Thornapple Lake.

The health department’s beach monitoring team tested the lake after observing a green film on the water in some areas.

Preliminary results indicate that the water may contain Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB).

The health department is advising people to stay out of the water and to keep their pets away from it.

If you are exposed to the harmful algae, it may cause rashes and blisters on your skin and can cause your eyes to become irritated.
