SALEM, Ore. (KPTV) - This week commemorates the 80th anniversary of World War II, and the State of Oregon along with several veteran organizations are collaborating to honor those who served with the dedication of two monuments.
Placed in the Willamette National Cemetery and WWII Memorial at the Oregon State Capitol, the “Sister” monuments, believed to be the first of their kind, highlight the state’s sacrifice and service to a war that saw 150,000 Oregonians enlist and approximately 3,800 soldiers die in battle.
The instillations will take place Thursday and Sunday this week and will be open to the public, featuring many veterans and Rosie the Riveters who played a pivotal role during that period.
