On Wednesday evening, Aug. 6, military police escorted Sgt. Quornelius Radford, 28, to the Liberty County jail in Hinesville, Ga., the suspect in the shooting of five soldiers at Fort Stewart Army Base.
Radford was apprehended at around 11:35 a.m. Wednesday morning after allegedly using a personal handgun to open fire on his coworkers at 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team Complex, which is an annex of Fort Stewart's main campus. Soldiers intervened on scene to "subdue" Radford, tackling him to prevent further casualties, according to Brig. Gen. John Lubas, Commanding General of the 3rd Infantry Division, who spoke at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.
"This one is a bit difficult, we're going to have to determine how he was able to get a handgun into his place of duty," Lubas said.
