Acadia Healthcare dropped several pieces of news as part of its second quarter earnings report on Tuesday, including that the Franklin-based behavioral health company spent more than $50 million related to a federal government investigation.

The company recently paid at least $20 million to the U.S. Department of Justice to settle claims of Medicaid and Medicare fraud. The investigations followed the New York Times reporting that the company was holding patients against their will and falsifying medical records for methadone patients, among other accusations.

For the just-ended quarter, Acadia spent $53.5 million on the government investigations after having spent $31 million in the first quarter.
