NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Get ready to look up to see this month's full moon this weekend.
The August full moon, known as the Sturgeon Moon, will shine over New York City between Friday night and early Saturday morning. The Moon will reach peak illumination at about 3:55 a.m. on Saturday.
The Sturgeon Moon gets its name from the prehistoric-looking fish that was most readily caught by Native Americans around this time of year, according to the Farmer's Almanac.
Following the Sturgeon Moon, the Full Corn Moon will rise in the sky on Sep. 7.
