An Ector County District judge’s decision to dismiss Matt Coday’s defamation lawsuit against Ector County Hospital District board member Wallace Dunn has prompted two other defendants to seek a dismissal as well.

Last year Dunn filed a defamation lawsuit against Coday, the president of the Oil and Gas Workers Association, claiming Coday has been attacking him on social media since February 2022 and falsely accusing him of violating HIPAA laws since August 2022.

In November 2024 Coday turned around and filed defamation lawsuits against Dunn, the City of Odessa, then City Manager John Beckmeyer, former Mayor Javier Joven and former city councilwoman Denise Swanner.
