A man is dead and a woman is injured after a shooting Wednesday night in the emergency room lobby of the MultiCare Allenmore Hospital in Tacoma, authorities say.

Police responded to the 1900 block of South Union Avenue just after 7 p.m. and found a man and woman with gunshot wounds, the Tacoma Police Department said. Medical workers attempted lifesaving efforts, but the man was pronounced dead.

The couple was in an altercation with a person outside the hospital campus, said police spokesperson Shelbie Boyd. The shooter then followed the couple into the emergency room lobby and opened fire.

The woman had non-life-threatening injuries, Boyd said, and no hospital workers were injured.

No arrest has been made and a suspect has not been identified, Boyd said.
