Passing on a strong, positive racial identity to your children is part of the Black parenting job. But what happens when Mom and/or Dad aren’t Black? How does that parent approach conversions and deliver experiences steeped in Black culture and history, and prep their kids for the challenges they may face due to the color of their skin? Kristin Davis, star of And Just Like That and mom to two young Black children: daughter Gemma Rose and son Wilson, stresses that it’s about putting in the extra effort.

“I’ve worked hard at it,” Davis declared to EBONY. “I work so hard because you have to live in a white centered world. And I don’t want them to feel like my world is somehow more important than their world and their culture.”
