Smoke from hundreds of wildfires in Canada has smothered the skies over dozens of northern U.S. states in the Great Lakes and Northeast regions. After several days of haze and poor air quality, relief is arriving as shifting winds begin to push the smoke away.
For the foreseeable future, skies are expected to return to normal. However, occasional smoke hazards may still occur as fires continue to burn in Canada and new sparks ignite daily.
Since late July, ongoing wildfires have loomed over border states , casting eerie Mars-like skies and sending smoke particles unhealthy even for the general population. This came on the heels of an extreme heat dome that impacted much of the Midwest and eastern U.S., creating stagnant air to help trap the lingering smoke.
