JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Washington County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) announced Thursday it's sending extra officers to help patrol downtown Johnson City during the weekend.
The "Criminal Interdiction Detail" is part of a collaborative effort with several downtown Johnson City business owners.
"This is in addition to, not in replace of, any current law enforcement presence inside the city limits," Sheriff Keith Sexton said in a news release. “When residents of our County ask for extra patrols in an area, WCSO always responds.”
The details will focus on the downtown area between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
"Historically, these hours see an increase in criminal activity on the weekends," the WCSO said in the release.
The extra patrols are reportedly in collaboration
