NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A woman has died after she was hit by a train on Friday evening, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Officers on scene told WSMV4 they responded to the Camper Road and Hickory Hollow Parkway intersection for reports of a train crash at around 5:15 p.m.

Preliminary investigation shows the woman and a man were walking down the center of the tracks. As the train approached the pair, the man tried to get the woman off the track, but was not able to.

The train also signaled multiple times for them to move before it hit the woman.

The man reportedly fled the scene after the incident, MNPD said.

MNPD told WSMV4 the victim is in her 40s or 50s.
