TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- A system outage to United Airlines occurred Wednesday at 8 p.m., triggering a ground stop.

The domino effect of delays could be seen at Tampa International Airport Thursday morning.

United Airlines is calling the incident a technology issue and treating it as a controllable delay. They are paying for customer expenses like hotels for the inconvenience.

“I mean, if flights are getting cancelled left and right and you’re in a place where you’re not normally from, I think that’s the least that they can do, yeah,” said Sammi Jo Porter from Tampa.

With technology at the helm of air travel, porter says despite disruptions like todays, she’s confident in the security and process of flying.
