A Mullica Township man accused of raping and stabbing a woman to death at her home more than three decades ago was ordered held in jail until trial Wednesday after his attorney consented to his detention.

Eddie Sykes, 55, is charged with murder, felony murder and aggravated sexual assault in the death of Evelyn Caez, 23. He was indicted Wednesday, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.

Sykes has been in prison since 1995, serving a 30-years-to-life sentence in the 1992 killing of Lisa Maimone in Burlington County. The next time he's eligible for parole in that case is Oct. 25, 2026, records show.

Police responded to West Lakeview Drive and found Caez dead in the kitchen about 7:30 a.m. Oct. 12, 1991, the Prosecutor's Office previously said. Caez died of a stab wound.
