HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) and the Honolulu Community College (HCC) launched a new partnership Wednesday that will give Hawaii students the skills to support the military’s Indo-Pacific mission.

Federal, state, and military leaders celebrated the grand opening of the Advanced Manufacturing Program Facility at HCC.

Officials said the facility will serve as a training hub for students, incumbent workers, active-duty military, and veterans. They will learn industry-ready skills in machining, welding, and advanced manufacturing to support the state and the Indo-Pacific region.

The pilot project brought 80 pieces of heavy equipment and tools to HCC to train an eight-member cohort to create parts for the Defense Department.
