BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- “Outlander” became a massive hit for Starz with the romance story of Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a British Army nurse in World War II who is transported to 1743 where she marries Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). The series is based on the book series by Diana Gabaldon.

The prequel series, “Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” uses the same time shifting element. The difference is the person making the time leap is Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) who happens to be Claire’s mother. The series, set to launch Aug. 8 on Starz, follows two fated couples who must defy the forces that seek to tear them apart.

The prequel will debut with two episodes and then a new episode will be released weekly.
