The StoneGate project's zoning change failed to get the needed votes from the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Commission on Monday. The vote was 5-4 and the project needed six to be approved.
The Reno City Council approved the StoneGate's zoning change in May from the originally planned 5,000 housing units to mostly industrial. They voted to go forward with the project despite the city's planning commission voting against the project in April.
In addition to the 5,000 housing units, the original project approved in 2018 would have included 1.2 million square feet in commercial/industrial space and land set aside for two elementary schools and a high school in Cold Springs.
Developers, builders and lobbyists implored the Reno City Council at the time to approve the project as a k
