KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The reigning National Women’s Soccer League MVP is now a nominee for the top honor in women’s soccer.
Kansas City Current forward Temwa Chawinga was announced as a nominee for the 2025 Women’s Ballon d’Or, essentially the women’s world soccer MVP award.
Chawinga, who won the 2024 NWSL MVP while starring for the Current, won the NWSL Golden Boot in 2024 for most goals scored and is off to another great start in 2025.
The 26-year-old from Malawi has nine goals in 14 games played for the Current, who sit at the top of the NWSL table. She’s one of 30 nominees announced Thursday for the award.
