TRENTON — Who is to blame for soaring energy prices in New Jersey?

A new poll finds voters fault a wide range of people and organizations, saving the most blame for those they dislike the most.

A Fairleigh Dickinson University poll released Thursday finds 26% blame utility companies, 19% blame Gov. Phil Murphy and just 10% say energy producers are at fault.

The state is dealing with a 20% increase in electricity prices this summer, which Murphy and Democrats blame on the regional power grid operator, PJM Interconnection.

Next year's prices will go up again, although not to the extent this year's rates did.

PJM conducts the auctions that set the price of power generation. Utility companies charge for the delivery of that energy to customers.
