Much of the Southwest has been baking this week, and now the Plains and Midwest are getting a taste of the heat Thursday into Friday and Saturday. Heat advisories are already being posted across the central Plains for Thursday and Friday:

Highs Wednesday soared into the 110s across parts of California, Arizona, and New Mexico. It marked the 11th consecutive day of 110°F or higher for Phoenix.

You might be thinking, yeah, so what? It’s always hot in the summer in the Southwest. And you’re right—partially. The average high for August 7 in Phoenix is 105 degrees. But over the last six days, highs in Phoenix have averaged between 113 and 114.
