Mitch Marner, a former star of the Toronto Maple Leafs, recently shared glimpses of his summer activities with former teammates on Instagram. The posts feature Marner enjoying time with his wife, Stephanie, and their newborn son, Miles, alongside friends from his time in Toronto.
In a series of photos, Marner is seen relaxing at a cottage and playing golf with Joe Thornton and Zach Bogosian, who is currently with the Minnesota Wild. The trio played together during the 2020-21 NHL season and developed a close friendship.
Marner, who spent nine seasons with the Maple Leafs, signed an eight-year, $96 million contract with the Vegas Golden Knights this offseason. His departure from Toronto has elicited mixed reactions from fans, known for their passionate and sometimes fickle nature.
During his tenure with the Maple Leafs, Marner recorded 221 goals and 520 assists, totaling 741 points in 657 regular-season games. Despite his impressive statistics, he often faced criticism due to the team's struggles in the postseason.
Fans expressed their feelings about Marner's recent posts. One user commented, "Take that Bearwear sweater off. Banned from Muskoka. Head down to Lake Tahoe." Another remarked, "This is like when ur ex drops a summer dump with all new friends and ur like woo, dodged a bullet." A third user noted, "A lot of golf pics for not having time to have a 1 day charity golf tourney," referencing Marner's cancellation of his annual charity event this summer amid his transition to Vegas.
Marner's next visit to Toronto is scheduled for January 23, 2026, when he will return with the Golden Knights. After leaving the Maple Leafs, Marner expressed gratitude to the fans and organization in a heartfelt message. He reflected on his nine years in Toronto, stating, "Now that my time in Toronto has come to an end, I wanted to share what these last nine years have meant to me. Leaving isn’t easy. This city is where I grew up, where I fell in love with hockey, and where I’ve had the incredible honour of living out my childhood dream."
He added, "When I was drafted, all I wanted was to help bring a Stanley Cup to Toronto. That was always the goal, and I came up short. I know how much this team means to this city, and I know the expectations that come with wearing this jersey. I gave everything I had, but in the end, it wasn’t enough. That’s hard to admit, because I wanted it so badly, for all of us."
