QUINCY (WGEM) - The Quincy City Council voted to opt in to a $4.5 billion settlement from pharmaceutical companies.
In 2022, the Department of Justice began taking legal actions against several pharmaceutical companies for their roles in the opioid crisis. The city of Quincy will now be a part of the settlement.
“Opioid money is very specific in the fact that you can only use it for education, training, opioid specific type purchases,” Quincy Police Chief Adam Yates said.
Yates, along with the Adams County Health Department has already begun discussions about where the money will be going. The health department received their own funds from a settlement in 2024.
