PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A North Providence man who plead guilty to fraud and firearms charges has been sentenced in Providence District Court.

Jamal Mansaray, 35, will serve just over nine years in federal prison on charges of bank fraud conspiracy, bank fraud, aggravated identity theft and prohibited person in possession of a firearm.

He will serve three years of supervised release and is ordered to make financial restitution in the amount of over $70,000.

Mansaray led a conspiracy from his home to steal checks from the mail and steal the identities based on the check information.

He then altered stolen checks, created fraudulent checks and fraudulently accessed bank accounts, according to the office of Acting U.S. Attorney Sarah Miron Bloom.

He was found in possession of hundreds
