WESTBROOK, Maine — A South Carolina man has been arrested in connection with a bank robbery at the Chase Bank in Westbrook Thursday morning, police said.

The robbery happened at approximately 10:51 a.m. at the bank located at Rock Row. Authorities said a man fled the scene on foot toward Larrabee Road. Officers, including two K9 units, conducted an area search but were initially unable to locate the suspect.

Thursday evening, Westbrook police announced that the suspect, identified as 61-year-old Jean Gendron of Smyrna, South Carolina, had been taken into custody. He was arrested just before 5 p.m. as he stepped off a bus in Londonderry, New Hampshire.
