Rookie infielder Chase Meidroth was placed on the injured list with a right thumb contusion on Thursday, with the move retroactive to Monday. In two corresponding moves, the White Sox selected the contract of infielder Jacob Amaya from Triple-A Charlotte and designated right-hander Gus Varland for assignment.

Meidroth, who was acquired by Chicago as part of the deal that sent Garrett Crochet to Boston, originally suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch by Phillies starter Taijuan Walker on July 30. He entered the season as the White Sox No. 8 prospect and has hit .252/.330/.319 with three homers, 15 RBIs and 11 steals in 84 games split between shortstop and second base.

Amaya has hit .291/.402/.464 with five homers and 17 RBIs in 34 games for Charlotte. He hit .097 (6-for-62
