METROPOLIS, Ill. (WSIL) -- Authorities are informing area residents to lock their doors and for everyone to stay away from an area in the northern portion of Massac county as a manhunt operation is underway.

The Massac County Sheriff's Office said they are looking for a man following a pursuit in the area of Highway 145 and Marion Road.

Authorities said they are looking for an unknown white male wearing a dark colored shirt which fled the area on foot after a vehicle pursuit.

The Metropolis Police Department and Illinois State Police are assisting the sheriff's office in searching for this person.

Authorities are informing the public to avoid this area and for nearby residents to lock their doors and their vehicles. Anyone who sees anything suspicious is urged to call 911.
