SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — School is back in session across Georgia — and that means droves of big yellow buses on the roads. While AAA says this is one of the safest ways for kids to get to class, unloading can be one of the most dangerous acts. This is because large numbers of Georgia drivers admit to speeding and distracted driving in school zones.

Last week, kindergartners and their parents at Chalker Elementary in Cobb County got a dress rehearsal for their first school bus ride before the first bell. Meanwhile, AAA and state officials gathered at Heards Ferry Elementary in Sandy Springs for the annual “School’s Open — Drive Carefully” campaign kickoff.
