ATLANTA — A DeKalb Police officer was killed Friday during an active shooter situation at Emory University's Atlanta campus, according to DeKalb County officials.

DeKalb's interim Police Chief, Greg Padrick, and DeKalb County's CEO, Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, confirmed the tragic news in a press conference on Friday night.

"It is with profound sadness that we announce the loss of the life of one of our very own DeKalb County police officers," said interim Chief Padrick. "This officer responded to the call as he was trained to do, and during that incident, he received gunfire and he lost his life in this incident. He was committed to serving the community."
