BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Soccer legend Mia Hamm will headline a special lecture at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art on Sept. 11 to kick off the opening of the new exhibit "Get in the Game: Sports, Art, Culture."

Hamm played college soccer at the University of North Carolina, winning four NCAA championships. She joined the U.S. National Team at just 15 and retired in 2004 after a 17-year career highlighted by two World Cup titles and two Olympic gold medals.

Hamm was also named one of ESPN’s greatest female athletes of the past 40 years.

The event will begin with introductions by Crystal Bridges’ chief curator Austen Barron Bailly and Bank of America Private Bank president Katy Knox. Moderator Steve Nelson will lead a "conversation with Hamm, discussing her story, legacy
