LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Arkansas Department of Transportation will launch its Street Smart program, which will attempt to instill proper road safety habits in students before they get behind the wheel and throughout their early driving years.
The program is the first of its kind in Arkansas.
It aims to teach students everything from being a safe passenger in the backseat to being a safe pedestrian on the sidewalk.
"It will be videos, online games, quizzes," said Dave Parker with ARDOT. "Things that they can use, more than likely. We already got an interest from health teachers, for example, they'll take this curriculum, which is all available online, all free to the school systems."
