WASHINGTON — A road-rage incident left a scooter rider and a driver hospitalized early Thursday morning in Northeast D.C.

According to Metro police, the incident erupted around 12:54 a.m. near the busy intersection of Benning Road and Maryland Avenue, according to spokesperson Shirayne Thompson.

The scooter rider pulled out a gun and shot the driver who, in turn, rammed into the rider, police say.

Investigators did not indicate what ignited the confrontation between the two men, nor did they disclose what charges the pair might face.

Neither of the men were identified.

They noted that the scooter rider's injuries were life-threatening, while the driver of the vehicle was conscious and breathing. Police do not believe the driver’s injuries are life-threatening.
