New Mexico's celebrity wolf has been released into the wild with her pups.

Asha, a Mexican gray wolf who was taken captive after twice roaming north of the Interstate 40 boundary of the state's wolf recovery zone, was let go Thursday along with her captive-born mate Arcadia and their five children, according to a news release from several conservation organizations.

Asha and family were released onto the 244-square-mile Ladder Ranch, a conservation-managed property adjoining the Aldo Leopold Wilderness in the Gila National Forest. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service named the family the Quartz pack; conservation groups had previously named them the Caldera Pack in honor of Asha's journeys to the Valles Caldera National Preserve.
