A man has pleaded guilty to a fatal shooting in Brockton, Massachusetts, 13 years ago, shortly before the case was set to go to trial, prosecutors said Thursday.

After his guilty plea in Plymouth Superior Court Thursday, Jerome Almonor was sentenced to life for the August 2012 killing of Lonnie Robinson, the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said. He has the possibility of parole after 20 years.

The jury that would have considered the case had already been selected, prosecutors noted.
