On Thursday, August 7, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department along with Explosive & Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Teams responded to a home on Margaret Lane in Cleary Community of Rankin County after a grenade was found.

Investigators said after they arrived, the item was determined to be a live grenade from the post-WW2 era. It had been kept and store by a now-deceased veteran.

EOD experts were able to secure the grenade to be detonated at a later time.

No evacuations were necessary due to the distance between homes in the area.
