THOMPSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WBRE/WYOU) – Two Pennsylvania state troopers were shot Thursday morning, Gov. Josh Shapiro confirmed.

The investigation began around 11:30 a.m. in the area of State Route 171 near Thompson Township and Susquehanna, located in the northeastern part of the state.

Information on what led up to the shooting of two state troopers is limited at this time.

"Lori and I are praying for those troopers. It is an active situation," Shapiro stated, referring to the first lady during a press conference in Bucks County. An aide said Shapiro would be headed to the scene of the shooting Thursday.

Both troopers were taken to local hospitals.
