CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — As back-to-school season approaches, local businesses came together at Nutter Fort Elementary on Friday to give away backpacks, school supplies and hot dogs to kids in need.

The event was organized by 304 Fence and Next Level Heating & Cooling LLC as a way to give back to the community, and had the goal of giving away 250 backpacks.

"Next Level Heating & Cooling and 304 Fence kind of share a parking lot, so we talk a lot and we were trying to just think of things we could do to give back to the community and we decided kids is where to start," Johnathan Cooper of 304 Fence Company said.

The giveaway event was not all pencils and rulers; the event also included a raffle with a variety of prizes, including passes to the Hive, Pokémon Cards and a Stanley Cup. The
