HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -- Monarch butterflies on their way to Mexico for the winter often find themselves making a rest stop at local milkweed.

And that was the topic this morning at the Capitol rotunda, as leaders from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources encouraged all Pennsylvanians to plant native species -- regardless where they live.

"To a butterfly, whether we're talking a 10 by 10 garden or a 10 acre, you know, they're still valuable," said Kelly Sitch, an ecologist with the department. "Butterflies don't need a whole lot of space to have valuable habitat."
