SHILLINGTON, Pa. (WHTM) -- West Nile Virus was detected in mosquito samples in Berks County this week.
Shillington Borough and the City of Reading both say samples in their municipalities tested positive. They were notified by the Berks County Conservation District of the detection.
"The mosquito team from the Conservation District will conduct extra larval and adult mosquito surveillance to help diminish the potential spread of West Nile," Shillington Borough said in a Facebook post. "The risk of West Nile transmission is still fairly low, but if continued virus activity is detected it may become necessary to conduct an adult control in the affected area."
The City of Reading's Public Works Department was notified that a mosquito pool in the city tested positive for West Nile.
