The swagger was there and so was the weight as the roly-poly Duke took the title of Big Boar at the Iowa State Fair on Thursday in front of a standing-room-only crowd.
While Duke's girth was enough to take this year's title at 1,268 pounds, he still fell short of last year's fair record breaker , Finnegan, who tipped the scales at a hefty 1,420 pounds. Finnegan was 85 pounds heavier than Reggie, the previous recordholder of 1,335 pounds set in 2012.
Bryan Britt, owner of Duke and Finnegan, knows the way to the winner's circle. In addition to those two, he claimed the top boar honors in 2019 and 2021 with no fair held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
But Britt said not to look for him in the next couple of years.
