LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A 78-year-old Louisville athlete received nationwide honors after competing in a seniors’ sporting event.
Humana hosted the 2025 National Senior Games in Des Moines, Iowa, where Louisville native James Hutchinson competed in the 200-meter and 400-meter dash.
After qualifying for the finals in the 200-meter, Hutchinson was named a “Humana Game Changer,” a national recognition reserved for athletes who demonstrate healthy aging and provide motivation to their peers.
WAVE caught up with Hutchinson at the Norton Sports and Learning Complex on Thursday, August 7, where he said he comes from a long line of runners.
“My grandfather set the US high school record for the mile in 1914,” Hutchinson explained. “The gene delivered a little bit with my father, but he was sti
